A huge clock, electrically operated and with chimes, was placed in operation today by the Citizens National Bank.

The clock is attached to the southwest corner of the bank building and attracted much attention today. It tells the hour of the day, every day, and to further depict the value of time, it sounds the quarter and half hour in a rich, soft musical chime. E. W. Ewbank, president of the bank, said the clock was installed at large expense for the convenience of the public and to emphasize the importance of one of Benjamin Franklin’s admonitions, “As thou art not sure of a minute, waste not an hour.”

The clock is made of bronze, with a copper hood at top and bottom, and with art glass dials facing each direction. It is operated from a master clock within the bank. The chimes are said to be a reproduction of the Westminster chimes.

Various musical combinations are arranged for each quarter hour. At quarter past the hour, four strokes are sounded – Westminster peal; at half past the hour, eight strokes – Cathedral; at three-quarters past the hour, 12 strokes – Reveille; at the full hour, 16 strokes – Westminster chimes, followed by the striking of the hour.
